Geo Headline-9 August,2011
Geo Headline-9 August,2011 by Geo News Violence escalated across London and at least three other cities Tuesday as police fought thousands of rioters and looters and Prime Minister David Cameron headed back to Britain to face the crisis. In unprecedented scenes of rioting in the capital, buildings were in flames in Croydon, Peckham and Lewisham in the city's south, while gangs of looters roamed the streets of Hackney in the east, Clapham in the south, Camden in the north and Ealing in the west. Scotland Yard said it had deployed an extra 1700 officers to deal with the London unrest, the worst in years. Armoured cars were used to quell the rioters. Hundreds of riot police poured into Hackney to try to contain the violence in a district just a few miles (kilometres) from where the 2012 Olympics will take place in a year's time. As darkness fell, police wielding batons pushed the youths back, while local residents hoping to return to their homes were kept behind police cordons. In Croydon, an entire block of buildings -- including a 100-year-old family furniture business -- was ablaze, sending flames leaping into the night sky. Local residents were evacuated due to the spreading fire, while the Guardian newspaper quoted a nearby officer as admitting: "We can't cope. We have passed breaking point." A 26-year-old man was found injured in a car with gunshot wounds in Croydon, police said. He was taken to hospital and was in a serious condition. Just outside Croydon town centre ...

UK youth see Pakistan beyond the headlines
UK youth see Pakistan beyond the headlines
Building bridges between UK and Pakistan is at the core of a recent partnership project between the British Council and social enterprise Offscreen Expeditions. Six 18-21 year-olds from the UK were chosen to explore Pakistan away from the headlines, travelling across the country meeting students, artists, social entrepreneurs, imams and politicians. Recording every minute along the way, the group created a first-hand portrait of Pakistan to educate and inspire peers in the UK through a series of films which are now available to watch online at www.youtube.com In this episode the team visited Mirpur, a region in Pakistan with strong links to Britain, to see some social action projects. These projects are run through the British Council's Active Citizen programme as part of an initiative called Apna Forum www.apna-forum.com which works to enhance understanding between Mirpur and the UK. For more information on Offscreen Expeditions, visit their website http For more information in the British Council's Active Citizen's programme and our work in Pakistan see, activecitizens.britishcouncil.org and www.britishcouncil.org

[HQ] The Saturdays - Karma - live - Headlines Tour! 2011 - TV Special
Well this just dropped out of nowhere. British girl group The Saturdays embarked on their headlining "Headlines! Tour" earlier this year in February, playing some of their biggest hits like "Up", "Issues", "Ego" and "Higher" and the tour was sold out in every venue. And while T4 followed them on tour and released their "What Goes On Tour" documentary and aired footage of some high quality performances of their performances from the "Headlines! Tour" where the girls played "Higher", "Issues", "Ego", "Just Can't Get Enough", "Higher" and "Puppet", another "Headlines!" album cut in the form of "Karma" is now in its proper high quality form instead of shoddy videos captured by fans. Here's Mollie, Una, Vanessa, Rochelle and Frankie strutting their stuff to "Karma" which as well all know, has the classic line "I hope you choke on some really hot coffee". Enjoy!

BBC News - Kabul assault - British forces involved in fight back 2012
British special forces were involved in the fight back against the Taliban's assault on the city of Kabul on Sunday, Afghan security sources have told the BBC. On Monday Afghan President Hamid Karzai said the attacks on the central district, where the parliament building and numerous embassies are located, were the result of "intelligence failures", especially by Nato. Andrew North reports from Kabul.
